Nintendo Game Boy – 1980’s Classic Hand-Held Game Console

The original Game Boy was introduced to The North American Market in July of 1989. It was created by Gunpei Yokoi, and The Nintendo Research Development 1, the same research team that designed The Nintendo Game and Watch in 1980.The Game Boy and The Game Boy Color sold a combined total of 118,119 units worldwide. The Game Boy was so popular back in 1980 that the first unit of the handheld device was sold within two weeks of its launch.

The Game Boy was originally given five launch titles in The United States, including Tetris, Baseball, Alleyway, Tennis, and Super Mario Land. It wasn’t until 1993 that The Legend of Zelda made its debut on the eight bit hand-held system, with “Link’s Awakening”; and in 1996 that fans of Nintendo could catch “Pokémon” and train them to battle The Elite Four.
