In the land of polite and nice people, and bordering Alaska, this frigid city is located in the middle of nowhere. There aren't even any roads for hundreds of miles. I wonder how this temperature was recorded? Do these meteorologists have a death wish?

5 North Ice, Greenland
Chilly Record Cold Temperature −87.0 °F (−66.1 °C)
Greenland was named the opposite of the climate by the vikings, who wanted to trick people into thinking Greenland was the green place and Iceland was the cold place. However, it's Greenland which is the colder place, so the Vikings succeeded in tricking the world.
Located in the middle of truly nowhere in a snowy tundra with nothing around for hundreds of miles, this place is beautiful, but is so cold your fingers will fall off.

4 Verkhoyansk, Sakha Republic, Russia and Oymyakon, Sakha Republic, Russia
Chilly Record Cold Temperature −90 °F (−68 °C)
These two cities are tied for the fourth coldest temperature ever recorded. A little trivia, Verkhoyansk was the place that Dexter Morgan was last seen before the TV series concluded. Additionally, Clark Kent (Superman) is seen in Verkhoyansk in the TV series Smallville.
Verkhoyansk is also the setting for several other shows and movies at some point or another. However, I doubt that the film was really filmed in Verkhoyansk because it would probably freeze the cameras!

Chilly Record Cold Temperature −117.0 °F (−82.8 °C)
Another isolated research station in Antarctica, this place is so cold and so isolated it isn't even on the map. Literally, it's not even on Google Maps. It's a lovely place to view the Aurora Australis, if you don't mind your breath turning to ice. It's also a beautiful place teeming with wildlife! Just kidding, almost nothing can survive in these temperatures!

1 Vostok Station, Antarctica

Located deep within the southern tip of the world, Vostok Station is the coldest place on Earth. At number one for the coldest recorded temperature in the entire world, this snowy winter wonderland is so cold if you take off your 12 layers of clothing your arms will freeze and fall off in 7 seconds.
Okay, that's not actually true at all but this place is really, really cold! If you got stranded here, it might be better if you got mauled and eaten by a polar bear. Of course, don't worry, you won't feel anything because your body will be completely numb.

Welcome my friend, Helper Cat says you need to register for that! :)
Please note, this is a great article. If it had dates and times for each recorded temperature, then that would make this article better. Regardless, this is appreciated. Thank you.
