They have unlimited space, but again keep in mind that does not mean infinite. Namecheap is a fantastic host, and although their support time is slow, we’ve always had a great experience with the support staff. They do have one of the best support staff. They are first a domain registrar, and second a web hosting company.

The main downsides to the base web hosting plan with Namecheap is the low amount of storage, which may not be enough even for newbies, and the low amount of subdomains, which seems somewhat arbitrary. There’s no reason to limit subdomains. Limiting domains is understandable, because cPanel places restrictions on domains, but limiting subdomains makes no sense except to try to compel people to upgrade.

Namecheap has some of the cheapest plans to start, and some of the cheapest services. But this is only for new accounts. When renewal time comes around, prepare for a sticker shock. They are one of the most expensive registrars and web hosts on renewal, and for this reason, despite the awesome back end system and stellar support staff, we left them to go to a different registrar with more reasonable prices.

Still, Namecheap does have a fantastic back end admin console and fantastic support, so even though you will be paying a premium on renewal time, it might be worth it to you. They also include a free domain, which will also renew at a premium price the next year, but it dos include free domain privacy.

Another reason people like namecheap is because they stand up for net neutrality. Since they care about privacy, they didn’t even force us to use valid whois information on the domain (although this is risky). Other hosts might get mad about that, but it shows they really do care about privacy.

For this review we compared the cPanel Hosting Silver plan instead of their other Shared Hosting plans. We compared the base plan for cPanel to compare it to the other similar base plans with other web hosts. Hostinger is located in Lithuania, so keep that in mind; however their responses were in perfect English.

They do have a non-cPanel (it uses hPanel) base plan at only $1.99 that only have 1 domain allowed, and doesn’t include a free domain, or the next level up is only 2.99 which is still highly competitive and beats every other offering on this page from a features standpoint. It’s a hard choice, but if you’re just starting out, the 2.59 cPanel Silver plan is probably best with the least limitations and best cost.

The biggest downside to hosting with Hostinger is the lack of phone support, but If you prefer to live chat, there is no major downside to Hostinger. Also, the 2.59 plan will increase on renewal to 4.99 per month, nd all the other plans do as well, but they are transparent on their website which is a plus in our opinion. However, even the price incerases are still good prices compared to the price increases of other web hosts.

While they don’t offer “unlimited” storage, neither do the others who say they do. Remember that unlimited does not mean “infinite”. At least here you know you get 50GB of storage, instead of having to guess the soft limits with the other hosts. 50GB should be more than enough if you’re just starting out.

Because they developed such a strong feature set, they have become highly competitive in the hosting industry. As long as you don’t mind the lack of phone support, then you will love Hostinger. Add to this the very competitive pricing at 2.59/mo for the base cPanel plan, and it’s got everything you need at the best price for what you get.

Hostwinds is a newer company compared to most hosts, but they’ve still be around awhile now. They have a great feature set, but don’t include a free domain and only allow 1 website (1 domain) on the base account. They also don’t have a CDN, and no SSH access for shared web hosting users. The worst part is that there is no money-back guarantee like the other hosts.

On the bright side, they do offer limited space and bandwidth, but beware because unlimited doesn’t mean as much as you want, it means due to “normal use” which is basically the normal files for a wordpress site. If you use too much space, you may get an email warning you that your account may be terminated.

Should you use HostWinds? It might be worth a shot. Their support was quick and friendly, and if you only have 1 website, then it does what you need. The monthly price is good, but beware that there will be a price increase on renewal, like most other hosts.

DreamHost is one of the oldest web hosts on the internet. Founded in 1997 before the dotcom boom, this is the oldest web host on this least, even older than Bluehost or Hostgator.

It was challenging to find the live chat on Dreamhost, but it is there. However, no one answered, so that’s a problem. Perhaps they would answer 24/7 if you go through the internal system instead of the front page of the website.

The do include an SSL, but just 1 domain and 5 subdomains on the base plan. They do not include cPanel, and also don’t have email included, that’s extra. But why on this list? This is for the 1.99 plan which is the lowest priced.

This base-level plan is a bit light on features, but it is the cheapest plan from any of the top web hosts. DreamHost has other plans that have all the features that cost only a little more than the budget plan. The 2.99 plan has everything the other plans have, but the 1.99 plan is still a good entry-level plan if you are on a shoestring budget.

Overall, Dreamhost has a great offering and is a great web host, although you might want to skip the budget plan and pay a dollar a month more for the next level up, which gives you a lot more for the money.
